Houseboat Trip Standard Charges
Shuttlecraft
$59 a day
Each houseboat that goes out must take a shuttlecraft out on the water with them. Our insurance company requires this for safety and convenience purposes. Examples: If you have an emergency and need to get help quickly, the shuttlecraft is easier to manoeuvre and goes much faster than the houseboat. For convenience purposes, if you are beached at Bulls Island and want to go to the city docks at Ottawa, it is much easier and faster to take the shuttlecraft rather than going to all the effort to un-beach the boat, dock it in Ottawa, and return to the beach and follow the proper beaching procedures all over again. Many of our customers bring their own motorized watercraft appropriate for the size of their houseboat rental and river conditions. If you need it, the shuttlecraft must be paid for either with cash or credit card.
Damage waiver:
$30 a day for the Captain Series Houseboats
$40 a day for the Admiral Series Houseboat
Security Deposit:
$500 or $1000 for the Captain Series Houseboats
$750 or $1500 for the Admiral Series Houseboat
We require a security deposit that must be paid in cash or with a credit card for each houseboat and the cost of the security deposit is contigent on whether or not you take the optional damage waiver. The damage waiver covers damage to our boat and our boat only. It does not cover damages as a result of negligence, impairment of the captain or crew, illegal boating activity, or disregard for Starved Rock Adventures' rules, regulations, and instructions that have been given to you and your party to follow on your trip. The damage waiver also does not cover damages that occur outside of the navigation channel or outside of the Starved Rock Adventures approved navigation limits.
If you choose to take the damage waiver, the security deposit would be $500 for the Captain Series Houseboats and $750 for the Admiral Series Houseboat. You would still be responsible for the first $500 (Captain) or $750 (Admiral), but after that it applies. If you do not take it, you give us a $1000 (Captain) or $1500 (Admiral) security deposit, but you are not limited to that amount in damages.
The shuttlecraft and the damage waiver may be paid when you do your paperwork at the beginning of the trip, and you are only going to need to pay for them the days that you are going to be out on the water (the evening of pre-night boarding is unnecessary and is not charged). The shuttlecraft and the damage waiver are non-refundable, but the security deposit is refunded at the end of your trip less any damages. In special circumstances, the security deposit may be held up to 5 business days if we need more time to assess damages and calculate the appropriate charges.
Fuel
You are required to pay for the actual amount of fuel used on both the houseboat and shuttlecraft, if you take it, at the end of your trip. When you return to harbor, we will refill the tanks and measure what had been used (this is always accurate because all the boats always leave with a full tank). We will total up the number of gallons used and charge the current fuel price per gallon for the houseboats and shuttlecrafts. The price per gallon is subject to change just as the prices do at the gas stations where you fill up your car.
